Surgical interventions can be effective for some patients with sleep apnea, but they are not a one-size-fits-all solution and are generally considered when other treatments have failed. Surgery aims to remove or reduce tissue blocking the airways or reposition anatomical structures to improve airflow. Examples include UPPP, which removes excess tissue from the throat, and MMA, which advances the upper and lower jaws to enlarge the airway. Surgery often requires careful patient selection and thorough discussion of the potential risks and benefits, as it may not be suitable for all individuals or provide a quick fix for the condition.
